Mike Grant
Director
Mike
Grant has been involved in education since 1995, and is
extremely excited to be part of the SHHS music faculty.
His teaching experience had been as a high school choral
director, and his programs in Orlando, FL and Mesquite,
TX were lauded as among the best in each respective state.
His inner-city High School choir was selected to perform
for the Florida ACDA convention in 1999, and he was the
youngest executive board member in FL-ACDA history from
1997-1999. Mike was chosen to open a brand new high school
in Mesquite, TX and his program there rapidly grew to
over 300 students, the latgest HS choral program in the
entire Dallas-Ft Worth metroplex. Every choir under his
direction has consistently scored 'Division I-Superior'
ratings in district and state-level competitions. In Florida
and Texas, he was a sought-after clinician and adjudicator,
and presented workshops in music technology at several
universities. He holds a bachelor's degree in Music Education,
Instrumental and Vocal from Nebraska Wesleyan University
in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 2002, the NWU music department
awarded him the 'Outstanding Young Music Alumni Award'
for his and his students' accomplishments in the music
field. Recently, the Symphonic Choir was named "Best
in Show" at the Worlds of Fun Festival of Music in
Kansas City.
